gmtristan.com updates

As you may well know, I am setting up my new virtual home:

And, with the help of friends, the site is almost done. We've managed to tweak the theme, the sidebar and placed a lot of widgets and plugins. I've also began updating my blogroll. To those who still haven't updated their blogrolls, kindly point the link to GM Tristan and the new URL above - www.gmtristan.com

Soon, I will stop posting to this blog address permanently. It has been fun blogging in this space. I'll miss it... but I all welcome you to my new home. While you're at it, please resubscribe to my new feed at

Gamer Food 101

Gamers have such a stressful lifestyle - little sleep, cramps from all-day mousing and typing, and not eating on time. The list can go on and on.

No wonder, gamer health can one day crop up as a major issue. But some of you might say “who cares? I’m a gamer, I only count EXP not calories!” Come to think of it, EXP does matter more TODAY. But your health (and the calories) may “level you down” TOMORROW.

Not wanting to sound like an infomercial (or a nutritionist), this post is basically about the types of food gamers prefer (and why?) and some healthy alternatives.

QUICK AND EASY

If you’re hunting in Elan all day or going through those “last 10%”, gamers will always choose foods and beverages based on the following:

Weighing My Options - Wordpress or Blogger

Need your expert advice.

I'm in a rut. After this afternoon's setup with Chino on the new GM Tristan website, I am now baffled with all the tech stuff needed to tweak the wordpress theme. CSS, PHP, XHTML, and all those darn codes are making my head spin.

If I am to continue with my wordpress.org hosted setup, a noob like me can't live without help from expert friends. Sigh.

Now, I am stuck with a choice...

1. Continue with the wordpress setup hosted on my domain (this means I have to learn to code my theme manually) or
2. Just continue with this blog and just point the domain to this one. With blogger, templating and adding widgets is a snap. Even an orangutan can do it!

I'll appreciate any comments or advice. I'm especially keen on which will be better in both long-term and short term use. Of course, adsense and web optimization are on top of my list.

Help!

chinoyray.com hacks into new domain

Don't be alarmed by the title... it's a friendly hack, at least...

Good friend Chino Yray has "volunteered" (actually I buzzed him like crazy this afternoon over YM) to help me setup the new www.gmtristan.com.

A million thanks to him - a true godsend.

If it weren't for the guy, I would have pulled all my hair from all the tech mumbo jumbo that this new Wordpress + Host + Cpanel shiat! Sigh. It used to be simple here in blogger. But the family is growing and the reason for the new name and the new site is all because of YOU - my dear readers.. nothing but the best of course! /no1

It's not complete yet, Chino and I spent the entire afternoon sharing passwords (sweet!) and configuring stuff. Here's a list of the things to come (Phase 2)

  • Configuring sidebars
  • Choosing widgets
  • GM T to learn dreamweaver (darn!!!)
  • updating feeds
  • Emailing all subscribers
  • Migrating posts
  • Migrating (and choosing) new blogroll
  • Adsense
  • Blah
  • Blah
  • Blah

See? A million things to do! And so little time... sayang, I wanted to catch up on my Heroes DVD this weekend. By I guess that will have to wait. In the meantime, please check out my first post at the new site.

Seeya all at www.gmtristan.com

Happy Weekend!

www.gmtristan.com

Weeeee!Just got my own domain and activated it today...

This blog will be in the process of migrating there in the next few days. I'll also be making a new feed and I encourage all email readers of my feedburner feed to re-subscribe.

Lastly, I call upon all bloggers who have added me to their blogroll to update their bookmarks to the new domain as early as now. Please let me know via commenting below.

In celebration of the new site (and yeah, the new look too), I'll be having a new blog contest where I'll be giving up real life merchandise and other goodies (maybe even in-game items too).

So, just cross your fingers that I finish the migration during this long weekend.

This site (http://gmtristan.blogspot.com) will still be alive but I will no longer post here soon.

Thanks to all my readers, hope to see you in my new home soon.
Regards,

GM T

Don't Trick The Google Ad Links

In a recent memorandum released by the Google Adsense team, they cite a lot of "intentional trickery" on the part of bloggers and web administrators to 'trick' readers into accidentally clicking Google Adsense Ads.

Google's AdSense blog addressed this recently, and gave examples of elements that should not have ad units placed too near to them:

  • In close proximity to Macromedia Flash games
  • Under pop-ups or download prompts
  • Near site navigation controls on your pages, such as drop-downs or menu links

According to that blog: "However, in some instances we've found that publishers have placed their ad units so close to interactive (clickable) content that users accidentally click on the ads instead of the site content. While this type of ad placement may not inherently violate our program policies, it could increase the risk of invalid clicks being generated on the ads, which would be in violation of our policies."

Note that similar practices are in violation of the Google Adsense policies and may disqualify your site or blog from getting revenues.

"You can understand that increasing the possibility of accidental clicks on your sites is not in the best interest of users or advertisers, and we wanted to make you aware of this risk," Mike Deeringer from AdSense Publisher Support wrote."This is why we ask that you maintain sufficient distance between your ads and any elements of your page on which users may often click."

Hope this post helps all my readers who are bloggers.

Ciao,

Old School: A Ragnarok Band!

By GM Nirvelli

Please describe something about yourself
My name is Francis Michael Rivera, a 3rd Yr. College Student at the Trinity University of Asia . I love Music, Sports, and Online gaming, I am a gamer by heart. I love competition and that’s what makes me keep playing RO.

So how did your band started and tell me a short description about how you guys are as a band and RO players?
Our band started with us siblings (Me, Princess, And Jonjie) singing at our church, jamming at bars and caroling every Christmas. We were surprised that many people like how we sing, so we decided to make a career out of it.

United we were when we started the band, divided were when we started in RO, cause we played in different servers. I was the first one who tried RO at Iris Server playing with the Ninja Guild. My brother due to curiosity tried the game and played at Sarah Server. The other 2 (Carl and Princess), trying to get decided to try the game and played in Lydia Server. Then the Urdr server was launched. We decided to join together in this server to form a guild and we decided to name it the Archangels.

Your Guild in Urdr is the Archangels, how do you manage being in a popular band and making it in time for participating in Guild Duties, RPC and even Real Life stuff?
It is hard coping up with the guild when our gigs are scheduled during siege time. But fortunately we have dedicated and loyal members who are looking after the guild when we are not around.

Do you guys have a crazy fanbase/ groupies like most popular artists do nowadays? It must be cool hanging out with artists like Piolo Pascual.
Yes, we do have followers, mostly from schools when we do campus tours. Luckily we have lots of friends who always support us whenever we have gigs. It was really cool being in a concert with Piolo and other stars like him in the industry.

Whats your take on RO players out there that have multiple (might i say Impressive) talents that you and your band have?
Be proud of your talent and share it with others, for talents given by God are meant to be shared to bring happiness to other people.

Do you guys have an album yet?
None as of the moment but we did recorded 2 songs. I can send you the sample if you want

That would be great. Now lets talk about the game. Do you guys have any plans since RPC and RWC is coming up or are you guys are doing some top secret strategies?
Yes, we are planning to participate this coming Agit Lords and we are aiming to “Fly High” at the RPC and RWC 2007.

Any last words to your fans, teamates and friends out there before we wrap up?
I would like to thank my family, my guildmates and all our supporters for believing in us in everything that we do in game and in real life.
