Today, I feature another "Gamer Babe", this time it's Aisha - who plays RF Online. Special thanks to my RF Friend - Dave for getting the info for me on Aisha.
Anyway, let's get it on!
GM T: Do you get "stares" when you tell someone you're an MMO gamer?
Aisha: Minsan. Not a lot of girls play. It’s hard to relate with those who don’t play because we end up having different interests. Some girls only go to internet cafes because their boyfriends play.
GM T: Where do you usually play?
Aisha: At home, kasi its free hehe! XD
GM T: What game do you play?
Aisha: RF Online
GM T: How and why did you start playing RF Online?
Aisha: It’s funny really. See my cousin and I are always competing with each other. Over the summer of last year he introduced me to RF Online. He was a high-level player at the time, but I quickly caught up and now I’m way stronger than him. *evil grin*. I was actually a Corite unit but then the community wasn’t so good; could barely find anyone to talk to. So I decided to join the Bellato Federation; and here I am 47 levels later.
GM T: What do you do when you’re not playing RF?
Aisha: When I’m not out trying to save the world? I’m ingame fighting for the Federation and killing the Accretians.
GM T: How much do you usually spend on online games a month? Particularly RF?
Aisha: About P400 max.
GM T: RF Online is a pretty RP(RolePlaying)-oriented game. Are you an RPer? And do you have a profile?

GM T: Anything you’d like to say to the community? Any special message?
Aisha: Mag-aaral muna kayo bago RF. Hehehe. Easy lang sa RF, may bukas pa!
GM T: What’s it like being a female gamer in a male-dominated community?
Aisha: Well in all honesty.. Sometimes it can work to your advantage, other times to your annoyance. Some guys will be nice – to the point that they’ll give you items or be given priority. They put on you pedestals. Other times if you just want to play in peace, you cant because the guys don’t stop PM’ing you. It doesn’t matter if you’re a guy or a girl, I treat everyone the same. What matters is that you treat everyone with respect. I don’t like people who pretend to be someone they’re not to take advantage of others. I don’t use my being a girl to take advantage. It’s just that people give. I never ask for stuff, but I GLADLY RECEIVE =)
GM T: Why RF Online? What about the game differentiates it and sets it apart from other online games?
Aisha: There are a lot of qualities you can learn from playing this game. RF is a community-heavy game. Whether you’re in the Roleplaying Server (Altrax) or the Hardcore Servers (Nexus/Praxis), you will unwittingly roleplay.
RF Online is Real-Time Strategy plus teamwork. Its kept alive by the drama, the politics and the overall interaction of the community. It’s where tight bonds and loyalties are made, and friendships extend to real life.
RF Online has great events.
GM T: Why are you an Ultimate Gamer babe? And what to you makes an Ultimate Gamer babe?
Aisha: I’m one of the most visible girl gamers / active / maganda reputation.. I don’t bug abuse. I don’t go insulting people for no reason. I try to make the game enjoyable for everyone. And because I choose to be a frontliner (not that many women choose to be shield-types/tankers).

Aisha's one of those norm-breakers, that's a very nice start.
It takes just one type of genes to make a girl [XX] and two types to make a boy [XY], and there are, in many countries, more girls than boys (kaya siguro sa pinas maraming babaero /swt ). So why aren't there a lot of girl-oriented games when the potential market is there?
Well girls in general, while they could be cellphone-savvy and up-to-date on the latest telenovela happenings, computers to them (and to people as a whole) is pretty alien. Add to that, because computer games are computer programs developed mostly by boys, it's not easy for people to make, er... girly online games :p
Still, that doesn't mean we should box them or limit them to such views. My girlfriend, for instance. Although she uses her PC primarily for chatting and Friendster, she also has a natural knack for games... and basically just needs the right nudges in the right direction to follow the lead of gamers like Aisha.
Might apply to other girls as well: make them familiar with the environment (especially the PC itself), make them interested in the game, let them spend a few hours a week online, and eventually you get them hooked ;) Easier said than done though, especially for finicky girls who are uncomfortable with computers and all...

have you tried playing ROSE online and went to even just one of its events?
Try going to a ROSE online event and make sure your eyes are ready. make sure to bring your cellphone, a pen and a piece of paper. :D
