Zune - my new toy

I told someone from the States to get me an iPod and I got a Microsoft Zune instead. Anyways, the Zune is Microsoft's take on the biggest selling gadget of all time, the iPod.

Here's some intial thoughts about my new Zune (comparing it to the mighty iPod, of course)

CONS

1. Size - it's thicker and slightly heavier than the iPod.
2. Dial - the dial DOES NOT rotate. It's just like a Nintendo D-pad... up-right-down-left... argggh!
3. Earphones - those supplied with the unit sound flimsy. Gotta get me a pair of Seins...
4. Formats - it only recognizes WMA, WMV and MP3. And I use iTunes... and most of my video collection is on MP4. Good thing the software comes with an automatic converter. A minor hassle.

PROS

1. Screen - bigger screen and you can view movies vertically. Truly, a wide-screen experience! This is the best one-upper they have over the iPod video's small screen.... now I can watch game trailers and movies in all their glory and be a happy man
2. Software - functioned and installed without bugs. Easy and good interface. It looks like iTunes though
3. Look - I got the black one and matte is so coooool.
4. Radio - thank heavens! It has radio built in
5. Wi-Fi - if ever I find someone with another Zune (God, when would that be here in the Philippines?) I can beam and exchange songs and content! This is a cool thing... all I have to do is find another Zune. Good luck to me.

So, in conclusion... I'm happy and ok with the Zune. This post goes into my "Gadgets" category and I'll be showing you some of the other stuff that I have or plan to buy soon.

The Zune and the iPod side-by-side
